Where Were You?
An original story written & directed by Linda Holland.

SYNOPSIS:

Set March 2014, 6 strangers waiting in a doctor’s surgery, remember the impacts of several world events on their lives, after seeing the breaking news bulletin about Malaysian Airlines Flight 370 going missing.

AUDITION DETAILS:

Auditions will be held upstairs at the John Lees Centre

15 Evan Street, Penrith.


Auditions are in 15 minute blocks.

Friday, 11th May 6.30pm to 9pm
Saturday ,12th May 10am to 1pm

Friday, 18th May 6.30pm to 9pm
Saturday, 19th May 10am to 1pm

IMPORTANT: You must advise at your audition, dates you cannot attend rehearsals.  

Any subsequent dates advised, once rehearsals start, may not be considered and your role may be re-cast.

You must be available to attend the Set Build day, Promo photo shoot days,

as well as the final two rehearsals and of course, all performances.

Songs can be either a Capella or with a backing track (with no other vocals)

CHARACTERS:

Mary Ward – elderly widow who’s husband went missing during Vietnam War – Stage age late 50’s to 60’s.
Audition song – There You’ll Be (Faith Hill) or Compulsory Hero (1927)
Monologue – Prepare a 1 minute monologue, in character, remembering when you’re husband was drafted into the Vietnam War. What were you doing, how did it impact your life plans?


Jennifer Holt – teenage girl – very sooky and doesn’t want to be at the doctors, clashes with her mum very easily – Stage age 17/18
Audition Song – Numb (Linkin Park), suitable Michael Jackson song or Trouble (Pink)
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, describing the first time you heard a Michael Jackson song.  What was happening in your life, how did the music impact you, etc.


Alice Holt – mother of Jennifer –going through pains of raising a teenage daughter – Stage age 40’s
Audition Song - Numb (Linkin Park), suitable Michael Jackson song or Trouble (Pink)
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, on the wedding of Charles and Diana. What were you doing that day, how did you feel about the event?


Mark Wilson – accountant who’s traveled the world for work – Stage age early 40’s-50s
Audition song – Burning Love, Little Less Conversation or other suitable unbeat Elvis song
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, on Elvis.  When did you first hear his music, how did Elvis impact your life, how did his death impact your life?


Kristy Smith – general office worker, normally extroverted but the missing plane has made her retreat into herself – stage age 30s
Audition Song – Wind Beneath My Wings (Bette Midler) or a similar song in terms of lyrics and temp
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, about September 11. How did you hear about it, were any relatives caught up in the situation, how did you feel?


Liam Evans – young mechanic – stage age 18 to 20s
Audition song – Anything upbeat and fun
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, about yourself.


Amy – Receptionist – stage age 40’s
Audition song – Born Free (Kid Rock) or anything similar in terms of lyrics and tempo
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, about Nelson Mandela being freed from prison. Your character was in South Africa but where? What were you doing in South Africa? Did you join the celebrations?


Dr Howard – Male GP in late 30s onwards (role can be played by female)
Audition song – I Can See Clearly Now (Jimmy Cliff)
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, about yourself.


Newsreader – male/female – 20s onwards
Audition song – I Can See Clearly Now (Jimmy Cliff)
Monologue – Prepare 1 minute monologue, in character, about a news event.
