Little Women, the much loved story by Louisa May Alcott, follows the lives of the March sisters, Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy as they go from childhood to womanhood.   

 

The years are filled with the hardships of poverty, the promise of love, the sadness of loss and hope for a brighter future.

 

The March family is living in genteel poverty after Mr March lost their money. (Meg and Jo March, the elder sisters, both work outside the home for money to support the family. Meg teaches children of a nearby family, while Jo aids her grand-aunt March, a wealthy widow whose strength is failing. Beth helps around the house, and Amy attends school.)

 

Their lives are touched and changed throughout the years by Laurie and his grandfather (the March’s neighbours), Aunt March, John Brooke (the shy tutor of Laurie),  Professor Bhaer (a German expatriate who encourages Jo with her writing) and Hannah, their housekeeper.
