The Story of Hansel and Gretel
Adapted & dramatised from the stories of the Brothers Grimm & Adelheid Humperdinck Wette
Directed by Heidi Vanderlem
Performance Dates:
15th October 2022 at 2pm & 7pm
22nd October 2022 at 2pm & 7pm
29th October 2022 at 2pm only

Not your normal rendition of this classic piece. This will be set in the 1980’s in an urban jungle, where pop icons are the heroes of the era. Hansel & Gretel are siblings growing up in a poor household just trying to keep up with their friends, Frederick, Susie and Johanna. All the group of friends want to do is go to the local public holiday fair in the next suburb.

There is a scripted cast of 18 in this show, with an additional chorus so there is plenty of opportunity for actors of all ages and experience to join in the fun. This is a musical, so all lead actors need to be able to learn their songs with minimal assistance. Support to do this will be provided via lyric learner tracks as well as backing tracks which will be available ahead of the rehearsal period.

AUDITIONS:
Auditions will be held Saturday, 23rd July from 10:30am-5pm
at Ruby’s rehearsal space
(Level 1, 15 Evan St, Penrith)

Each audition slot will be 10 minutes long. You can use one of the songs from the show if you wish. If not, you will be expected to prepare a song that you believe will showcase your voice.

Please note: Due to time constraints, we will not be able to listen to the whole song, so if your song is cut off please know that it not a reflection of your audition but purely to maintain a tight audition schedule.

There will also be a script read. The sections of the script that will be read will be available on the day or prior to the day on the show Facebook group.
Please contact Heidi Vanderlem to gain access to this group.

All participants over the age of 18 will be required to hold a volunteers
Working with Children Check prior to rehearsals starting.

REHEARSALS:
Rehearsals will be held on Sundays between 10:30am- 4:30pm.

Rehearsals will commence on 31st July 2022.

A full schedule will be available from the first rehearsal, but it will be full cast calls each week, but times may be staggered.

This is a short rehearsal period so all cast must be available to attend all rehearsals.

With the current pandemic, if you are required to isolate, a video link will be set up so that the affected cast member is not losing precious learning time with the cast.

There may be some calls on a Friday night for cast to rehearse but this will be worked out with those who are required on a case-by-case basis.

In the week prior to the show there will be tech rehearsals in the theatre.
These are compulsory.

COSTUMING:
There is an expectation that cast will be able to assist with their own costume. Specialised pieces will be sourced but most of the costumes should be easily sourced from home or op shops. There will be assistance to help with these.
There will only be one costume per character, so it is a great opportunity to really put yourself into your characterisation and build from the inside out.

SET BUILDING:
There will be set building days that will be announced at a later date. This show has a very minimal set so it should not be a big process, but it is going to look cool.

BEHIND THE SCENES:
We will always be looking for helpers to work behind the scenes
in the following positions:
Hair & Makeup
Stage Management
Front of House
Runners

If anyone is interested in helping, please contact Heidi for more information.
