SYNOPSIS:
The play is introduced to the audience by Tom, the narrator and protagonist, it is a memory play based on his recollection of his mother Amanda and his sister Laura. The play is set in the 1940's in St Louis , USA. Amanda is a faded southern belle who shares an apartment with her son and slightly older sister Laura.
Amanda yearns for the comforts and admiration she remembers from her days as a feted debutante. She worries about the future of her daughter, with a limp caused by Polio. She pressures Tom to find a suitable suitor for his sister Laura. She insists on him finding a suitable "male caller" for Laura .
The Glass Menagerie is a play that is very important to modern literature. Tennessee Williams describes four separate characters , their dreams, and the harsh realities they faced. The story is about a loving family that is constantly in conflict.
