The Wizard of Oz (adaption)

SYNOPSIS:

"The Wizard of Oz", adapted from L. Frank Baum's novel, follows Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas, who is swept away by a tornado to the magical land of Oz. To return home, she journeys with newfound friends (the Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Cowardly Lion) down the yellow brick road to see the Wizard of Oz. Along the way, they face dangers from the Wicked Witch of the West and learn that "there's no place like home.
This musical adaptation has pop music throughout with some recognized songs.
AUDITION INFORMATION
Read through: Tuesday 19th August 2025 at 7pm

Auditions: 13th September 2025.
Morning slot: 10am
Afternoon Slot: 2pm

Auditions will consist of:
● Dance call in groups

● Singing: song that suits your character
(For specific characters there will be a specific song.)

● Acting: An acting scene will be provided to you on the day.

CHARACTERS
Dorothy
F, 13 - 16
(Mezzo/Mix) Young Kansas girl, earnest, expressive, and strong-willed, in search of something more. Very strong singer who moves well.
Singing and dance ability is required

Scarecrow
M, 18 - 30
(Baritone) Plucky and clever in a pinch, even while lacking a brain. Strong actor with an honest quality. Excellent dancer – acrobatic skills a bonus. Strong stage presence. Singing and dancing required.
 
Tin Man
M, 18 - 30
(Baritone/Tenor) Desperate for a heart. A kind-hearted romantic.
Singing and dance required.
 
Cowardly Lion
M, 18 - 30
(Baritone) A mix of bravado and cowardice. Should move well. Cuddly actor with excellent comic timing. Singing and dancing required.
 
Glinda the Good
F, 20 - 40
Grumpy, sarcastic elf who always expects the worst - but still shows up and does their job.
 
Wicked Witch of the West
F, 20 - 40
Character villain with an over-the-top stage presence. Excellent comic actress has a killer cackle. Sings comically but doesn’t have to sound good. Dancing is required.
 
Sparkles (Witch’s Cat)
M/F, 16 – 25
The Witch’s Cat is the head of the henchmen and the witch’s slave, with this character you will be required to sing a little bit but not much. Think cat-like movements and physical traits. Strong dance ability is required.
Aunt Em
F, 40+
Aunt Em is demanding but loves her niece. Non-singing.
 
Uncle Henry
M, 40+
Dorothy’s pleasant uncle. Non-singing.
 
The Wizard of Oz
M, 40+
Older father figure with an eccentric flair. Basic conjuring or sleight of hand a bonus. Possible song.
 
Munchkins / Henchmen / Citizens Of Oz
M/F, 8 - 20
Ensemble characters which will be used in majority of all the dance numbers.
Some small lines available. Dance ability required.
