ALICE IN WONDERLAND:
THE MUSICAL

SYNOPSIS
Alice is a bored, daydreaming girl who abandons her sister's tedious lesson to chase a talking White Rabbit down a rabbit hole, tumbling into the strange and unpredictable world of Wonderland. She encounters a series of eccentric characters — including the philosophical Caterpillar, a chaotic tea party hosted by the Mad Hatter and March Hare, and the riddle-loving Cheshire Cat — each more absurd than the last. Her adventures lead her to the garden of the volatile Queen of Hearts, who demands Alice's head simply for winning a game of croquet. In a dramatic courtroom trial, Alice finds an unexpected ally in the Queen of Spades, whose fierce confrontation with her tyrannical sister gives Alice the courage to finally stand her ground and declare the court's inhabitants nothing but a pack of cards. Alice wakes to find it was all a dream, back safe with her sister — though perhaps a little less interested in afternoon tea and cards than before.

CHARACTERS
LEAD ROLES
Alice
stage age 10–14, 124 lines
The curious, spirited protagonist who tumbles into Wonderland and navigates its absurd inhabitants. She grows bolder throughout the journey, ultimately standing up to the Queen of Hearts in court.
Queen of Hearts
stage age 30–50, 35 lines
The tyrannical, volatile ruler of Wonderland whose solution to every problem is "Off with their head!" She clashes bitterly with her sister in the trial scene.
Mad Hatter
stage age 14–25, 22 lines
An eccentric, nonsensical host of an eternal tea party who speaks in riddles and contradictions. He later appears as a witness in Alice's trial.
White Rabbit
Any age, 17 lines
A perpetually frantic rabbit in a waistcoat who is always late for an important date with the Duchess. He serves as Alice's inadvertent guide into Wonderland.
Cheshire Cat
Any age, 15 lines
A grinning, enigmatic cat who gives Alice directions in the most unhelpful way possible. He delights in logic puzzles and vanishes at will.
Caterpillar
stage age 20–40, 12 lines
A languid, hookah-smoking philosopher who speaks in riddles and recites nonsense poetry. He offers Alice cryptic but ultimately useful advice about the mushroom
SUPPORTING ROLES
March Hare
stage age 14–25, 21 lines
A perpetually intoxicated (burping) co-host of the tea party, fond of terrible cat jokes. He is energetic, chaotic, and comic.
Tweedle Dee
stage age 14–25, 22 lines
One half of a matching absurdist duo who speaks in contradictions and "nohows". He and Tweedle Dum serve as court announcers at Alice's trial.
Tweedle Dum
stage age 14–25, 16 lines
The other half of the absurdist duo, equally contradictory and comic. He and Tweedle Dee must be cast and rehearsed as a tight pair.
King of Hearts
stage age 30–50, 9 lines
The mild-mannered, largely ineffectual husband of the Queen who attempts to inject procedural fairness into the Queen's kangaroo court.
Charlotte (Sister)
stage age 13–17, 6 lines
Alice's bookish, prim older sister who bookends the story in the real world. Provides a grounded contrast to Wonderland's chaos.
Knave of Hearts
stage age 16–25, 4 lines
The bumbling, burping accused tart-thief whose inability to keep quiet nearly seals his own fate. A comic cameo with a memorable moment.
Doormouse
Any age, 15 lines
A sleepy, easily offended mouse who attends the Mad Hatter's tea party and tells the touching story of Charlie the alley cat. Highly sensitive about cats.
Queen of Spades
stage age 30–50, 14 lines
The Queen of Hearts' composed, morally principled sister who intervenes to defend Alice at trial. A dramatically strong foil to the Queen of Hearts' rage.
Duchess
stage age 25–45, 12 lines
A loud, domineering noblewoman obsessed with her many babies and quick to threaten decapitation. Both terrifying and absurdly comic.
Cook
Any age, 3 lines
The Duchess's pepper-happy, ladle-wielding cook who cheerfully endorses the Duchess's most outrageous behaviour.
ENSEMBLE
Babies (need a few)
stage age 5 - 10, Minimal/physical
A group of noisy, arm-chewing infants under the Duchess's care. Ideal for younger cast members — more physical comedy than dialogue.
Card Gardeners / Card Soldiers
Any age, Non-speaking
Ensemble roles representing the Queen's card subjects; involved in the court and garden scenes.
Flamingos & Hedgehogs
Any age, Non- speaking
Non-speaking ensemble roles representing the living croquet equipment in the Queen's game
